UMKC loves celebrating our transfer students. Transfer students bring incredible value to our campus and we want to ensure they have the resources and support needed to be successful.

Celebrate UMKC Transfer Students

UMKC organizes National Transfer Student Week to celebrate transfer students and the professionals who support them.  From local community colleges to regional partners and our University of Missouri System schools, UMKC is a destination for many transfer students.

Get involved, enjoy free UMKC swag, and learn more about the resources and services dedicated to helping transfer students succeed in our Roo community.

Monday, October 21

  • LGBTea Community Hour, 10:00AM-11:30AM | Rainbow Lounge, SU Room 325
    • Looking to build community? Join LGBTQIA Programs & Services for coffee, community, and connection. This weekly program is a great way to get to know new people across campus and build a network of other students and staff. 
  • Coffee Station at ASSC, 11:00AM-1:00PM | ASSC, Dining Hall Lobby
    • Celebrate National Transfer Student Week with a quick pick-me-up coffee and breakfast treat. 
  • Success Coach Group Session: Navigating Campus Resources, 12:00PM-1:00PM | Online
    • The Roo Advising Success Couches offer support to students who are experiencing challenges both in and out of the school setting. These coaches serve as entrusted people with who students can discuss strategies, tools, and resources that will help them be successful in reaching their academic and personal goals. Sessions are a judgement-free zone and tailors to support student's needs. 
    • Zoom link will be emailed to those who RSVP on Roo Groups - space is limited. 
  • Crafting Calm with Avanzando & MSA, 3:00PM-4:00PM | MSA Village, SU Room 3019
    • Looking for a creative way to unwind? Crafting calm is a monthly event where students can destress and recharge through relaxing activities like coloring and crafting. This month's edition brings a fun seasonal twist: make you own DIY ghosts and stress balls. 

Tuesday, October 22

  • UMKC Peer Mentoring Weekly Study Hall, 10:00AM-12:00PM | First Gen Den, ASSC 2nd Floor
    • Come study with us! UMKC Peer Mentoring hosts weekly drop-in study hours. We have school supplies, tea and snacks, a calm atmosphere, and student leaders available to provide assistance on studying for upcoming exams. 
  • Success Coach Drop-in, 12:00PM-2:00PM | Oak Street Hall
    • Come see your success coach to check in and get tools for success! Note that success coaching is not academic advisement and we are not able to assist with enrollment or financial aid. Success coaches will help with motivation, stress management, finding resources, self-care, feeling connected to campus, and more. 
  • Study Abroad Information Session, 2:00PM-3:00PM | Online
    • Join us to learn how studying abroad is achievable during your UMKC career. Learn about program options, discuss your questions, and take your first step to a new adventure. 
    • Zoom link is on RSVP page in Roo Groups. 
  • Applying for Scholarships, hosted by Financial Wellness Center, 6:00PM-7:00PM | Online
    • In this session, current students and scholarship reviewers will walk through UMKC Competitive Scholarship Application, giving you tips and tricks for making you application stand out. We will also share recommendations for finding additional scholarship resources in the community. 
    • Students must RSVP on Roo Groups to receive Zoom link. 
  • Transfer Roo Meetup & Pumpkin Painting, 6:00PM-8:00PM | Student Union Starbucks Lounge
    • Join the OSI and Transfer Roos for a night of fun community building. Meet other transfer students and share bout your experience at UMKC while painting a pumpkin. 
    • Snacks and beverages will be provided. 

Wednesday, October 23

  • Site Visit to Fastenal, hosted by Career Services, 9:00AM-2:00PM | ASSC Dining Hall Lobby
    • Join Career Services on a site visit to Fastenal. Learn more about distribution and supply chain management, tour their store and distribution hub, gain insight from Fastenal's regional vice president and distribution manager, and more. 
    • Transportation is provided to those who register on Handshake
  • Employer on Site: Evergy, hosted by Career Services, 12:00PM-2:00PM | Plaster Center 3rd Floor 
    • What to learn more about the public utility? Stop by the Plaster Center to hear from a current Evergy employee about what it's like working at Evergy and information about current openings.

  • Mellon Humanities Internship: Thinking Entrepreneurially, 12:00PM-1:30PM | EDUC 115
    • This workshop will cover and apply basic concepts related to fostering the mindset of an entrepreneur and the entrepreneurial process, essential tools and frameworks, and how to use these concepts for defining, proposing, and scoping a project for a client or customer. 
  • Intro to Investing Part II, 12:00PM-1:00PM | BEH 414
    • Join us for the second session of our 2-part series ont he basics of investing. Whether you have already started or just want more information, these sessions are a great place to begin. While this session will build on previously taught material, all are welcome to join. 
  • Curious Minds Wanted: Demystifying Research, 1:00PM-2:00PM | MSA Village, SU 319
    • Think research is just for scientists in labs or something too dull to dive into? Think again! This panel bring together faculty members from across different fields to share their research journeys - stories full on unexpected discoveries, challenges, and career-defining moments. They'll break down the common myths about research and discuss the many ways students can get involved. 
  • Love and Money: A Panel Discussion, 3:00PM-5:00PM | Women's Center, Haag Hall 105
    • A panel of financial experts answer your relationship and money questions. Topics include navigating money with a partner, identifying financial red flags, and strategies to leave financial abuse. Questions can be asked anonymously. 
  • IIBA Kansas City: Speed Mentoring, 6:30PM-8:30PM | Bloch Executive Hall 218
    • International Institute of Business Analysis Presents Speed Mentoring. Join us and meet with area professionals to discuss professional growth and strategies. Further your passions and career while expanding your network.

    • Join the OSI and Transfer Roos for a night of fun community building. Meet other transfer students and share about your experience at UMKC. Students who are interested in attending the volleyball match after the Meetup can go together.

  • Regnier Innovators Hub, 1:00PM-3:00PM | Bloch Executive Hall 332
    • If you want to start your own venture or think you might want to create your own thing, this is the place for you. The Regnier Innovators Hub invites students from across UMKC's campus to gather around their entrepreneurial and innovating ideas. Students with an interest in developing a new product or business connect with resources for new businesses and collaborate with likeminded peers.

  • Bilingual Connections: Careers Across Languages, 3:00PM-5:00PM | MSA Village, SU 319
    • Are you bilingual or a student considering learning a new language? Bilingual connections is a dynamic speed networking event where you will engage in brief, one on one conversations with multiple professionals - similar to speed dating, but instead you are building connections! What makes this different from other networking sessions? This event will focus on bilingual professionals who will discuss the perks of being bilingual in the workplace. No networking experience? No worries. We will provide materials and guidance to help you navigate the event with confidence.
